Reduce an image to any size in KB

Upload limits are everywhere. A job portal caps photos at 100 KB, a forum avatar at 50 KB, an email attachment at 2 MB. Pick the exact ceiling you were given (for example 80 KB, 250 KB, or 2 MB) and this tool compresses your image to fit, in one step, right here in your browser. A lot of people search for "resize image in kb", "photo resizer in kb", or "reduce image size in kb". In almost every case what they want is a smaller file, measured in KB, so it slips under that limit. This tool does exactly that: it lowers the file size while keeping the same width and height. If you actually need to change the pixel dimensions of a photo, such as making it 600 by 600, use the image resizer instead. Everything runs on your device. Your image is never uploaded to a server, never stored, and disappears the moment you close the tab. Many "compress to KB" sites send your photo to their servers to do the work. This one does not.

How do I reduce an image to a specific size in KB?

Add your JPG, PNG, or WebP, then type the exact target you need in KB or MB (for example 100 KB). The image is compressed to fit that size in your browser, with no upload to any server. Reducing an image to a number of KB means making the file smaller, which is compression; it does not change the pixel width and height.

Frequently asked questions

Is this resizing or compressing my image?
Compressing. It lowers the file size to hit your KB or MB target while keeping the same pixel width and height. If you need to change the dimensions of the image instead, use the image resizer.
What target sizes can I choose?
Anything from about 5 KB up to your original file size, in KB or MB. You cannot target a size larger than the original, because compression only makes files smaller. Quick chips for 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB and more appear based on the file you add.
What if my chosen size is smaller than the image can go?
The tool gets as close as it physically can and shows you the final size. A very small target on a large, detailed photo may land slightly above the number or look softer. Lowering the target a little, or starting from a smaller image, helps.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Compression runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your image never leaves your device, and we could not see it even if we wanted to. Many other 'compress to KB' tools upload your photo to do the work; this one does not.
Which formats work, and is there a watermark?
JPG, PNG, and WebP are supported, and the output keeps your original format. There is never a watermark, logo, or signup.
Will the file be exactly the size I typed?
It lands at or just under your target. Hitting an exact byte count is not possible without padding the file, so the tool aims for your number or a touch below it.
