Why resize an image?

Almost every site, form, and app expects an image at a particular size: a profile picture that has to be square, a document upload capped at certain dimensions, a banner that needs exact pixels, or a photo simply too large to send. Resizing changes the width and height so the picture fits where it is going, instead of being rejected or awkwardly cropped. Set the new size in pixels for an exact result, or scale by a percentage to make a copy that is just smaller. Keep the aspect ratio locked so the image does not stretch, or choose how it should fit inside a fixed box. Save as JPG, PNG, or WebP, and resize a whole batch at once if you have several. It all runs in your browser on the original file, so your images are never uploaded. One honest note: resizing changes dimensions, not file weight directly, and enlarging a small image cannot add detail that was never captured.

How do I resize an image online for free?

Upload your photo, set new dimensions in pixels or a percentage (with the aspect ratio locked if you want), and download the resized image as JPG, PNG, or WebP. Everything happens in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between resizing and compressing?
Resizing changes the pixel dimensions (width and height); compressing reduces the file size in kilobytes while keeping the dimensions. They pair well: resize first, then compress to a target size. Compress an image
Can I resize without stretching the image?
Yes. Lock the aspect ratio and the height updates automatically when you change the width (and the reverse), so the picture keeps its proportions and never looks squashed.
Can I resize to an exact size, like 512x512 pixels?
Yes. Switch to pixel mode and type the exact width and height you need. There are also ready-made pages for common sizes and passport photos. Resize to 512x512
Does resizing reduce quality?
Making an image smaller keeps it crisp. Enlarging stretches the pixels you already have, so a small image blown up looks soft; the tool cannot invent detail that was not in the original.
Which formats can I resize?
Common image formats including JPG, PNG, WebP, and HEIC, and you can save the result as JPG, PNG, or WebP.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Resizing runs entirely in your browser, so your images never leave your device, with no watermark and no signup.
