Why 100 KB, and can every PDF reach it?

100 KB is one of the smallest PDF limits you'll meet. Some exam portals, e-KYC steps, and form fields ask for a document "under 100 KB". Be realistic about what fits: a single-page, mostly-text PDF or a tidy one-page scan can usually reach 100 KB. A long or photo-heavy document often cannot, because there's only so far a 20-page scan can shrink while keeping every page legible. When 100 KB isn't reachable, our tool doesn't fail silently or fake it: it produces the smallest version it can and tells you the exact size, so you can decide whether to split the PDF or pick a larger limit. Everything runs locally in your browser. Your document is never uploaded.

How do I compress a PDF to 100 KB online for free?

Drop in your PDF and the tool re-compresses it as close to 100 KB as possible, then shows you the exact final size (if a long or image-heavy file can't get that small, you get the smallest version it can make rather than a rejection). It all runs in your browser so the file is never uploaded, and reaching very small sizes renders pages to images, so the text stops being selectable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can any PDF really get to 100 KB?
Not all of them. Short or text-only PDFs usually can. A long, image-heavy scan may bottom out higher. We then give you the smallest file we can make and show its real size, rather than rejecting the document.
My multi-page scan won't hit 100 KB, so what should I do?
Split it into single pages and compress each one, or upload only the pages you actually need. A one-page document has a far better chance of reaching 100 KB. Split a PDF
Does the text stay selectable at 100 KB?
No. Reaching such a small size means rendering pages to images, so text isn't selectable. For searchable text, use the full Compress PDF tool with its OCR option on desktop. Open Compress PDF
Is it free and watermark-free?
Yes: completely free, no signup, no watermark, no daily limits.
Do you upload my PDF?
Never. All compression happens in your browser; the file stays on your device.
