Australian Passport Photo Requirements (APO)

The Australian Passport Office (part of DFAT) requires photos measuring 35 mm wide by 45 mm tall. A paper application needs two identical printed photos; this tool sets the exact 35 × 45 mm proportions (413 × 531 px at 300 DPI, or 827 × 1063 px at 600 DPI for sharper printing). Official requirements (passports.gov.au): • Size: 35 × 45 mm; two identical copies for a paper application • Head height: 32–36 mm from the chin to the top of the head • Background: plain, uniform and light, with light grey or off-white preferred (not pure white) • Neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open (for anyone over 3 years old) • Nothing on your head or face (though head coverings worn for religious reasons are allowed) • No glasses, and the photo must be a recent, true likeness About the background: • Because Australia prefers a light grey or off-white background, photograph against one and use "Fill" to keep it. • "Fit" pads with pure white, which is not the preferred Australian background. How to use this page: • "Fill" crops to exactly 35 × 45 mm without altering your background • Frame your head first with our Crop tool to hit the 32–36 mm head height
