Canadian Passport Photo Requirements (IRCC)

Canada uses a distinctive photo size: 50 mm wide by 70 mm tall, larger and taller than the 35 × 45 mm used by most countries. This tool produces those exact proportions (591 × 827 px at 300 DPI, or 1181 × 1654 px at 600 DPI). Important. Canada requires a professional photo: • IRCC requires passport photos to be taken by a commercial photographer or studio; home-printed photos are not accepted for the official application. • The back of one printed photo must show the photographer's or studio's name, full address, and the date the photo was taken. • Use this page to confirm the correct 50 × 70 mm size, prepare a digital copy, or reprint at the right dimensions, but get your official set from a photographer. Official requirements (canada.ca / IRCC): • Size: 50 × 70 mm; head height 31–36 mm from chin to the natural top of the head (excluding hair) • Background: plain white or light-coloured, uniform, no shadows • Neutral expression, mouth closed, both eyes open, full front view of face and shoulders • Taken within the last 6 months How to use this page: • "Fit" keeps your whole head inside the 50 × 70 mm frame on a white background • Frame your head first with our Crop tool for the 31–36 mm head-height rule
